Tonbridge Football League Report – Saturday October 29th, 2011
Premier Division
Having beaten the reigning Premier Division champions the previous
week, Blackham & Ashurst were brought back down to earth with a
surprise 1-0 defeat at Pembury. The visitors went into the game with
a 100% record and dominated possession and spurned numerous chances
against their hosts. They were made to pay when Ollie Funnell rifled
in the only goal of the game for Pembury just after the hour mark.
Southborough bounced back from that defeat to Blackham with a 3-2
victory over Penshurst Park. As the scoreline suggests the match was
close and Park led on two occasions only for Mark Inglis and Ian
Constable to equalise respectively. At 2-2 it was anyone’s game with
the home side taking the spoils through a Michael Powell winner.
Tom Revell got the only goal of the game for East Peckham Juniors as
they beat Tonbridge Invicta Reserves and moved up into second place.
Woodlands won their first league game of the season at High Brooms
Casuals. Joe Howse, Ian Redfern, Dan Howse and Richard Stanton were
their marksmen in a 2-4 success as Harry Hickmott and Rob Harman
responded for the hosts.
It ended 2-2 between AFC Valour and Swan (Edenbridge), giving the
former their first point of the season.
Division One
In Division One, Paddock Wood moved to within a point of the leaders
with a 0-3 win at Castle Rangers. Paul Smith opened the scoring with
a well-taken goal. James Hall crossed superbly for Dean Hayes to
double the advantage with Hayes getting the third after the break.
The game between Rusthall Reserves and Hawkenbury Reserves ended in
a draw as both sides led at different stages. Chase Ellis put the
Rustics in front in the first period with Luke Bacon and Ash Evans
responding for the visitors early in the second half. Back came the
hosts and a quick fire brace from substitute Adam Saunders made it
3-2. Before that the Hawks had missed a penalty, which struck a post
but they did get the final goal of the game when Luke Reeve headed
home a long throw
It ended goalless between Capel Sports & Social and Dowgate.
Four goals from Tom Cobb plus strikes via Matt Conroy (2) and Nick
Forward helped Pembury Reserves to an 8-3 victory over Roselands.
Division Two
The leading pair in Division Two were beaten as the chasing pack
closed in on the top of the table. James Murphy hit a hat trick for
Brenchley Wanderers as they came back from a goal behind at the
break to beat Swan (Edenbridge) Reserves, 5-3. He was joined on the
scoresheet by Robert Jackson and Jamie Parish.
Jack Dixon converted a penalty for Leigh as they took the lead at
Woodlands Reserves with Alex Smith finishing off a good passing move
to double the visitors’ advantage. In the second period Fred Quirk
added a third for Leigh and whilst they conceded a late goal they
ran out deserved winners.
Like their first team, East Peckham Juniors Reserves won their game
by a solitary goal. They beat Paddock Wood Reserves courtesy of Matt
Jagelman.
Rusthall 3rds came back from a 0-2 deficit to eventually beat Frant,
4-3. John Ronaldson and Dave Walter brought the Rustics back on
terms before Neil Whittaker made it 3-2. Despite letting their
advantage slip, Frant responded to equalise but the last word came
from Whittaker who headed home a corner for the winner. Josh Ennis
(pen), Tom Platts and Ryan Ennis got the visiting goals.
Roselands Reserves and FC Revolution shared six goals and earned a
point apiece. For the second week in a row the latter could
not defend a comfortable lead. Paul Edwards (2) and Tom Barry had
put them 0-3 ahead but the hosts hit back to earn their point.
There was an eventful game at Cadogan where Ashton Prime beat
Hawkenbury 3rds, 7-4. The visitors took the lead on ten minutes, but
Prime were ahead by half-time with goals from the fit-again Joe
Walker and Tom Cary's shot (or tackle depending on how you look at
it) from the half-way line that sailed in over the goalkeeper. Prime
went 4-1 up ten minutes into the second half with goals from Martin
Coleman and Carl Barker before Hawkenbury took over and pulled it
back to 4-4. But Barker put Prime back in front, before Salk Abu
curled in a 25-yarder and Barker completed his hat-trick.
